Ford’s Galaxy is an icon of the full-size MPV class as it does more than others can. The vehicle is spacious and practical but also great fun to drive as an everyday run-around. Each version comes well-equipped to make journeys easier and more entertaining.
The all-new Galaxy reinforces Ford’s latest design signature with the same horizontal grille, long headlamps and sculpted bonnet that other new arrivals feature. The car’s long roofline ends at a flat tailgate that helps when parking, and a tall posture creates more room for occupants. The model range starts at the Zetec trim to equip the MPV with roof rails, front fog lights, alloy wheels, and parking sensors as standard.
Inside there is space for up to seven, but this arrangement isn’t permanent. You can instead fold the second and third rows of seats flat for van-like interior dimensions or hide them away individually for whatever the journey demands. Front seat back tray tables give the impression that passengers are travelling in first class, which is reinforced by Ford’s use of first-rate materials and upholstery throughout.
With Ford’s very latest powertrains onboard the Galaxy is quicker and more efficient than you may think.
It is unusual for a seven-seater MPV to complete the 0-60mph sprint in under ten seconds, but with the 237bhp 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine under the bonnet, the Galaxy does it in under nine.
Pick the 2.0-litre Duratorq diesel with manual transmission if low running costs are the aim. The unit returns up to 56.5mpg combined using Ford’s start/stop system.
Reactive technology and tough passive safety features protect everyone that travels inside the MPV. Ford has packaged a number of its most advanced technologies into an Intelligent Protection System (IPS), including multiple airbags, an ultra-high strength steel safety cage, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
The American firm has also fitted its latest audio and communication technology in the cabin to make it more than a place to drive. Be in charge of audio playback by linking an external device to the SYNC 2 system via USB or the SD card slot. Select the Titanium trim for a DAB tuner and satellite navigation, or the range-topping Titanium X to enjoy a Sony audio system.
