Ford refused to compromise when designing the all-new S-MAX which is why it carries seven in comfort, is a joy to drive and looks great wherever you take it. The model is a class-leader among MPVs and a valued addition to many families.
The pointed bonnet, wide grille and swept-back headlamps will all be familiar to Ford fans. They define the firm’s latest styling direction and give the MPV its sporty looks. Halogen daytime running lights, 17-inch 20-spoke alloy wheels and an upper grille with chrome surround are all features of the entry-level Zetec. Climbing the range gives you the option for leading-edge kit such as Adaptive Lighting with Ford Dynamic LED headlights which automatically adjust to different road conditions.
The seven-seat cabin has a luxurious feel as premium upholstery and other soft-touch materials have been sculpted for maximum space. An adaptable seating set-up means the S-MAX can be moulded for almost any journey. Every seat folds away flat for a total luggage capacity of 2,020 litres, or you can tuck them away individually to carry fewer passengers and more cargo.
For power there is a choice between strong and efficient EcoBoost petrol engines or highly frugal Duratorq diesels.
Both EcoBoost units will get the S-MAX to 60mph from standing in under ten seconds, which is impressive given its seven seat capacity.
Every single powertrain includes auto start/stop which cuts the engine power when the MPV stops to minimise emissions and fuel consumption. This helps the 2.0-litre Duratorq to return combined fuel consumption figures as high as 56.5mpg.
Sophisticated safety technology helps everyone to travel with peace of mind in the MPV, and Ford’s Intelligent Protection System (IPS) is one of the most significant additions. It incorporates a range of active technologies which take automatic action to prevent an accident in a variety of situations. Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), for example, brakes the car’s wheels to correct understeer or oversteer through bends. Multiple strategically positioned airbags and an ultra-strong safety cell deliver passive protection should you be involved in a collision.
At your fingertips is more Ford technology which is fitted to increase your enjoyment when on the road. Ford’s standard SYNC 2 system gives you access to a DAB digital tuner and eight-inch TFT display, while the higher Titanium trim includes satellite navigation. Replacing the traditional instrument cluster is a 4.2-inch colour TFT display in the Zetec and a 10.1-inch display from the Titanium upwards.
